How to run MagicWeb from your home computer:

1. MagicWeb will only run on Internet Explorer, not other Web browsers such as Firefox. Also, you must be logged into the Hopkins VPN in order to get to either MagicWeb site. If you need to install the JHSecure VPN Client, go to http://www.it.jhu.edu/restricted/infosec/jhsecure/index.html. This requires a JHED ID and password.

2. It is recommended that you first install this Windows patch (2.1 MB), then restart your computer (as instructed by the patch installation program).

3. In order for MagicWeb to install correctly during the first time to the MagicWeb site, make sure that Internet Explorer will save encrypted files to disk. To do this, click on Tools, then Internet Options, then Advanced, then go down to the Security heading, then find "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" and make sure the box is not checked. Once MagicWeb is working correctly, it is OK to change this setting back and to prevent Internet Explorer from saving encrypted pages to disk (which is required for the EPR image viewer to function).

4. When you click on one of the MagicWeb links above, Internet Explorer may block the download, with a thin bar across the top of the page indicating that active content is being restricted. You need to click on this bar to allow downloads, cookies, etc. from the MagicWeb site.

5. You need a username/password combination for Hopkins MagicWeb, and a separate username/password combination for Bayview MagicWeb. When you are logging into Bayview MagicWeb, be sure to choose the "Advanced" setting rather than the default "Basic" setting on the opening page. Bayview studies can also be accessed indirectly through Hopkins MagicWeb: log into the Hopkins MagicWeb site, click on "Data Source" in the upper left-hand corner, and then choose "BAYVIEW_MS_QUERY."
