Information for Foreign Medical Graduates
- All residency training positions at Johns Hopkins are awarded through the Match.
- We start with first year residents at the PGY-2 level. These individuals must have completed one year of clinical training (internship) in the United States.
- Competition for positions is keen. We rarely offer interviews to foreign medical graduates. Approximately 5% of our residents are from non-U.S. schools, but all have spent an elective period of several months or more in our department. The competition for elective rotations/observerships within the department is extremely high, but you are welcome to seek additional information by contacting the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine’s Registrar's Office at 410-955-3080.
- Foreign applicants with USMLE scores below 220 on Part 1 are usually not selected to be interviewed.
- The residency program sponsors J-1 visas only.
